It has been 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story film was released, launching the animation giant as a major film company and introducing audiences to beloved figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the storyline but leaving fans curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest toy, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer avoids is what the sheriff is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a new adventure with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and assisting prize toys find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with him. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was pass his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the badge pinned to her shirt.
